Papal altar
The altar from the stadium under Wielka Krokiew was built for the time of the Holy Father’s pilgrimage to Zakopane on June 6, 1997. The architectural design of the construction was made by Zbigniew Śliwiński, while the author of the artistic design and carvings was Marek Szala from Zakopane. Construction works offering Pawlikowski company from Poronin.
While watching Po Wielka Krokiew, a 5-meter-wide white circuit flowed down from the base of the altar and ran through the recording of the stadium, rising up the slope of the mountain to reach a 12-meter-high white cross at its peak.
The altar was moved from the Wielka Krokiew stadium to the Fatima park at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima in Krzeptówki after the Holy Father’s pilgrimages.
The new monument at the altar is a statue of Our Lady of Fatima in the place of the papal throne. It refers to the symbol of “the cradle of life at the foot of the Cross on Giewont”, which was mentioned by John Paul II.
The body of the altar in the side part was closed with a monumental stained glass window depicting a historical event – Homage to Polish Highlanders – which was located at the very altar from the Wielka Krokiew stadium on June 6, 1997 during the Holy Mass. with the Holy Father.
